General Ikeaness and Park

Ikea was basically plopped down in the middle of an industrial wasteland. It sits right on the water and is surrounded by a housing development, ball fields, and cobblestone streets. Its an underestimate to say this has been the dominant issue in Red Hook for a number of years. One of the odder developments has been the alternative public transportation system that they have set up. It seems like there are more Ikea Shuttles and water taxies out there than regular MTA transports. A number of people have reported that they no longer take the B67 (or what ever bus they used to take) but now hop on the more reliable and free shuttle. Its brought more transportation options to Red Hook than the city has. I can only imagine the value of the land (which should probably be a superfund site) has sky rocketed. Luckily it is a beautiful spot but it is right in the middle of a wasteland.

Ikea also paid for and by the looks of it designed a park that runs along the water. They have left a lot of original detailing like the cranes and giant rolls of rope and added signage explaining what everything is along the water. Its a nice park and there were people occupying the lounge chairs and tons of people sitting outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

But hey, who doesn't want cheap huppenjajorhes?
